Having captured the hearts of Malayali audience with her cute looks in her debut film ‘Action Hero Biju’, Anu Emmanuel is now set to woo Tollywood. Sashidhar Adivi finds out more…
After making an appearance as a child artiste Anu Emmanuel (daughter of producer Thankachen Emmanuel) spent most of her formative years in the US. She made a comeback as the lead actress in Malayalam film ‘Action Hero Biju’ earlier this year. “My focus is on films right now and I want to do interesting roles,” she reveals.
Anu is enjoying the life of an actress ever since she debuted as the leading lady. Admitting that she had to encounter challenges in the transformation, the doe-eyed beauty states, “Luckily there hasn’t been any challenge so far. But I think the biggest challenge for any actor would be to pick up the right roles for the subsequent releases. Fortunately, I have a slew of Telugu films lined up, much before my debut film released. Language is another common challenge coupled with being away from home for long, but of course, I call my parents everyday and I keep them informed. The more I’m doing it, the easier it is becoming. The whole movie life – waking up early, you don’t know what time you can come back and sleep and dealing with the industry people are all changeling. Having said that, I enjoy what I am doing and it is making me a better person, may be because I am an actor by choice.”
The US-based Malayali girl feels lucky to bag three projects in Telugu, much before her debut film hit the screens. “I feel lucky and blessed, that’s all I can say. Also, the people I have worked with are amazing and they support me all the time in different ways. Tollywood has been absolutely amazing! I guess Telugu people are naturally kindhearted. I made a lot of friends here and that’s one of the reasons I don’t feel home sick,” she elucidates.
Her eyes light up when she talks about her debut Tollywood project ‘Majnu’. Anu played a shy girl in the romantic entertainer. For someone who was born in the West, how challenging was to play such a character? “Even in the USA, I loved wearing traditional outfits, sarees and salwars for get-togethers, so it wasn’t difficult. The role was a bit challenging because I don’t get to speak much – I have to communicate through my eyes – but when I speak, I’m garrulous. There are a few challenges during the role but I’m glad that I was able to come through with a right team,” ponders the actress, who is also shooting for two more Telugu films opposite Gopichand and Raj Tharun.
Tipping her ‘Majnu’ co-star Nani as funny yet very smart, she expresses, “He’s one of the best and I don ’t think I can get a better co-star than Nani for my debut. He helps you in all matters and is a great friend. He ’s a great guy too and can give you a proper answer for everything.”
Having featured in romantic films, Anu feels this is the not the right time for her to be in a relationship. “My romantic nature depends on the moment and who I am with. If I were in a relationship, I would want to be romantic and honest with that guy. But I don’t want to be in a relationship at this point of time. I think this is not the right time for love. I just started my career and have a lot to focus on. I have to shuttle between different sets of the films, etc. If you are in a relationship, you have to give enough time to y our partner. So I’ll get into a relationship only when I can give all my time to him.”
