While most people were impressed by the acting skills of the entire unit in general, many did not know anything about a man who played the father of a little boy in the film other than the fact that he had done a good job.
Interestingly, it was not just the public who seem to have been impressed by Guru Somasundaram’s skills in Aaranya Kaandam.
When SouthScope asked popular Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, who himself was brilliant in Aaranya Kaandam, on how he was able to come up with such an intense performance without even knowing the language, he said, “A lot of factors helped me come up with such a performance. Firstly, emotions don’t change even if the language does. I would understand the scene before getting into it and my experience helped. Then, I had an AA+ director in Thiagarajan Kumararaja. Also, the cast was fantastic. All the actors were superb – be it the little boy or the guy who played his father (Guru Somasundaram) — they were fantastic. Each of these factors contributed a little bit to the final outcome and the whole product turned out great. The film looked serious because the cast was serious.”
