Condoling the death of Vignesh, who died of burn injuries sustained as a result of his self-immolation bid to reinforce Tamil Nadu’s right over the Cauvery river water, Director Bharathiraja has appealed to people not to resort to such extreme steps.
In a statement, he said that the death of Vignesh, who ended his life over the Cauvery River dispute, had left a deep scar in his heart. The veteran director said, “My heart is in agony and my eyes are wet like a pond.”
Stating that people could fight for their rights and that their protest could be for their language, group or community, Bharathiraja said that however, one has to live life to achieve success. “By killing oneself, no protester will succeed. It becomes news and an incident for others,” he said and added, “Death is no solution.”
The director said, ” Let us keep a full stop to such deaths. Let us bow to Vignesh and pray that his soul rests in peace. At least after his death, let mother Cauvery come to our land. And let her keep a full stop to such deaths.”
