Director Arun Chidambaram’s Kanavu Variyam, which has already won six international awards at various film festivals, seems all set to win more honours. The film, which is yet to be released in India, has already won awards in festivals held in the US, China, Korea, Russia, Italy, Ukraine and Kenya.
Touted to be a commercial family entertainer, Kanavu Vaariyam is based on power-cuts in villages across Tamil Nadu. The makers claim that the movie will be loved by kids. It had its Asian premiere in June at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival, China.
The film has now been selected to be screened in the ‘International Motivational Film Festival BRIDGE OF ARTS’ in Russia from Aug 24-28. That apart, the film has also been selected for screening at the 15th Pyonyang International Film Festival in North Korea (Sep 16-23), The International Children’s Film Festival’ in Ukraine (Sep 21-24), The 67th Montecatini International Film Festival in Italy (Oct 6-9) and the 11th Lola Kenya Screen Film Festival in Kenya.
The awards that the film has won so far include, the Platinum Remi award for Best Theatrical Feature Film at the 49th WorldFest-Houston, USA and the Special Jury Award from the National Science Film Festival organized by the Governement of India. The film also emerged the winner at the 17th Bare Bones International Film & Music Festival, USA and was the winner at the Los Angeles Film & Script Festival, USA.
Apart from playing the lead role and directing the movie, Arun has written the story, screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for Kanavu Variyam.
