Actress Kajal Aggarwal, who has a number of interesting projects in her kitty, including Kavalai Vendaam with Jiiva and actor Ajith‘s upcoming film AK 57, makes no bones of the fact that she has immense respect and admiration for Ajith.
Talking to SouthScope, she says, “I can’t stop praising him because I have so much respect and admiration for him as a person. I have tremendous respect for him not just for the actor that he is (he is fabulous at what he does), but also for the person that he is. He is amazing and it has been amazing to work with him.”
Why does she say that? Get her to validate her statement and she replies, “I was shooting with Ajith for our film and he kept calling me Kajalji on set. I told him, ‘I am way junior to you. Why are you calling me Kajalji. Just call me Kajal.’
“To that question, he said something which blew my mind. He said,’Personally, I’ll call you Kajal. Please don’t get offended by it. But on set, I’ll call you Kajalji because it just so happens that in our industry, people usually follow the male protagonist.'”
She says, ” What he said was true. That is how it is in our work culture and we can’t go around changing it.”
What Ajith said next is what seems to have overwhelmed the actress. Kajal says, “Ajith said,’ If I call you Kajalji, every one around will call you Kajalji.” which was true. Everyone around was calling me Kajalji. He said, ‘I want things in our industry to change. I want women to be given the respect they deserve.'”
The actress confesses that she was overwhelmed by that reply.
