Director Sankagiri Rajkumar is no new person to the Tamil film industry. His first film Vengayam, which highlighted evil practices and superstitions in place, won critical acclaim and impressed several people so much that director Cheran even went to the extent of having the film re-released to ensure that it reached a larger number of people.
That was way back in 2011. Now, the director is back with another sterling effort and one that is good enough to get his next film in to the record books. Yes, Sankagiri Rajkumar is now ready to release his next film One and what makes it special is the fact it has been made by only one man – Rajkumar himself.
Talking exclusively to SouthScope, Rajkumar says, ” I play all the characters in the film. I am the director, the producer, the cameraman, the make-up man, the light boy and every other possible technician that the film required. I have scored the music, sung the songs and played the musical instruments for them. Not one single person other than me has worked on this film. Simply put, right from the plot of this story to the output that is to be provided to theatres screening the film, I will be doing everything.”
Looking at our stunned faces, he continues, “In short, I imagined myself to be the last person on earth and made this film. My aim is to make the audience feel that this entire film has been made by a big team and not by just a single man. It has a social message and is a commercial entertainer.”
One realises that Rajkumar’s effort is a back-breaking one as he starts giving out more details. “I have played all the characters in this film. In short, I have had to play 300 characters in different get ups for this film and the entire effort has taken me a good three-and-a-half years. But now, the film is ready,” he beams.
This is definitely a record-breaking effort. So, has he made attempts to get in touch with the authorities? “Actually, not yet. When you want to set a Guinness record, you usually write to them and they send a team to see you perform the task. In my case, my effort required three and a half years and it is very impractical to expect them to stay with me all this while. Therefore, I have recorded every single moment of making this film. I will send in the details to them once the film is released,” he explains.
Rajkumar is now involved in promoting his film, all by himself again. “I can’t have a PR you see,” he smiles as he signs off.
