DAMARUKAM

• Akkineni Nagarjuna is set to achieve what no 51-year-old star actor has done so far – sport a six-pack – in Damarukam, which is scheduled for release in August. Damarukam has a strong lineup of actors, such as Anushka Shetty, Nasser, Ganesh Venkatraman, Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood and Brahmanandam.

• Director Srinivasa Reddy has justified the presence of such powerful performers because the storyline of this film has sociofantasy elements to it. Damarukam will have a Tamil release too.

• The movie is produced by RR Venkat and presented by Achi Reddy. According to Achi Reddy, they were impressed with the storyline presented by the director, who had earlier directed two films under the same banner. “When we listened to the story narration, we gave him the go ahead to work on the script. We did not want to compromise at any stage,” he says, emphatically.

• The crew of Damarukam are simply in awe of Nagarjuna. “There are very few 50+ actors in the south who have a well-maintained physique. The USP of Damarukam is Nagarjuna and his youthful look in the film. He has worked very hard on his fitness. The rushes are amazing,” a source from the production unit observes.

• A significant portion of the movie was shot in India and abroad, particularly the songs. Renowned choreographers, such as Raju Sundar and Chota K Naidu have directed songs for the movie. According to the makers, the highlight of the songs is a duet shot with Nagarjuna and Anushka in Europe, choreographed by Raju Sundaram.

• There are unconfirmed reports that Damarukam has been inspired by the book The Immortals of Meluha written by Amish Tripathi and that the first-look posters look very similar to the cover of the novel. But the filmmakers clarify that the movie is based on an original story. The highlight of the movie is the graphic work involved to bring the sociofantasy plot to life. The producers are sure that the end result will be a superlative experience for audiences.
