Actors Vikram and Ajith joined scores of others from all walks of life in condoling the death of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away on December 5 at the Apollo hospitals in Chennai.
Sources said that actor Ajith, who was shooting in Bulgaria for his film with Siva, returned to Chennai. He and his wife Shalini silently went and paid homage at the place where the mortal remains of the former Chief Minister had been laid to rest early today morning.
The actor had issued a statement yesterday expressing his deepest condolences to the citizens of the state. In it, he had said, “She had fought many battles and had stood tall among the leaders of our times. This news comes as a shock to me as we were praying for and hopeful of her speedy recovery. May her soul rest in peace.”
Actor Vikram too has condoled the death of the late Chief Minister.
In a statement, the actor, who is in New York, said, ” It is with profound sadness and shock that I heard the news of the sad demise of our beloved honourable CM Selvi Jayalalithaa Madam. Not only was she a great leader but an icon in the eyes of millions of fans like me. Her persona, her inner strength, her eloquence will always be missed. It’s truly a great loss, not just for Tamil Nadu but for the whole of India. God bless her soul.”
