The young designer, who is busy designing costumes for heroes in Vishal‘s Kaththi Sandai, Vijay Sethupathi‘s Rekka, Vijay Antony‘s Yeman, Lawrence’s Shivalinga, Jai’s Balloon, Simbu’s AAA, Sasikumar’s untitled film and Nakul’s Sei, is the man who designed the costumes for Vijay in his upcoming film Bairavaa.
Talking to SouthScope about the experience of designing costumes for Vijay, Sathya says, ” I am a big fan of Vijay sir myself. I came to cinema only through him. My ambition was to design clothes for him. So, when I did that in Theri, I was delighted. He was the one who gave me this opportunity to design clothes for him in Bairava also. He is my inspiration. Vijay sir’s costumes in Bairavaa have been designed in a way that will appeal to fans. Just like how the shirts SivaKarthikeyan wore in Rajini Murugan gave rise to a new trend in shirts that were called Rajini Murugan shirts, Vijay will sport uniquely styled shirts in this film, which are sure to become popular after the release of the film. It will result in a new trend in shirts and these shirts will be called Bairava shirts.”
So, what is special about the shirts that Vijay sports in Bairava? ” The shirts I have designed for Vijay in Bairava will be unique. What I have done is that I have used denim fabric throughout the movie. Eighty per cent of the costumes that he will sport in the film will be of denim material. The colour of the collar of the shirt that he sports will be in contrast to the elbow cuffs of the shirt. The colour of the pant will be the same.”
So, how did he get the idea for this look for Vijay? “We actually tried a number of options. We kept trying. In fact, I tried stitching ten different types but none of them would have appealed to fans. I know this as I myself am a big fan of Vijay sir. So, finally, when I arrived at this costume, I was happy.”
What did Vijay say after he saw the costumes? “Vijay sir was happy. He is someone who does not say much. He is a very silent person but he was very happy,” says Sathya.
