Radhika Apte, who played Superstar Rajinikanth‘s wife in Kabali, which not only smashed box office records within days of its release but was going strong well past its 50th day, is absolutely unfazed when one draws her attention to this achievement.
“I did expect it actually,” she chuckles. “When it’s a Rajinikanth film, you expect it to do well. It is a good film. It is also a different one from the recent films that he has done. I think when you make something different, it always works,” she says.
The actress has fond memories of working on this film. Talking about working with Rajini, she says,” He made me feel so comfortable and was more like a friend. You can’t be bogged down by somebody and try and work with them. He is just so fantastic and there is so much to learn from him. I am saying this with complete sincerity and genuinity. I really admire him too much as a person. From my side, I think we became friends. So, working with him was very easy apart from the first day when I was shooting with him for the very first time.”
Giving details of the first day’s shoot, she says, “I was stressed then. It was my first scene and only I had lines. Also, it was a night shoot and it was late for him because he was shooting all day and I didn’t want to mess it up. I didn’t want to do five takes because of delivering my lines right. But I think that was the only moment that I was stressed. After that point, there was no stress. We used to chat about lots of things. All sorts of things.”
Kabali has been such an overwhelming success that a sequel is now a given. Get Radhika to give you more details about the sequel and she says, “Honestly, I did not know about a sequel being made. You just told me the news. It’s exciting. However, if an offer is made, I will take it up.”
