Actor Kamal Haasan has expressed shock at the videos that show cops setting fire to vehicles and shanties during the violence that broke out as a result of the clashes that broke out between protestors fighting the ban on Jallikattu and policemen yesterday. The videos have gone viral on social media.
Responding to a question on the videos , the actor who addressed the media today, said, ” I don’t know. I am shocked. I am equally shocked. I hope some kind of reasonable explanation is given to us, which will sort of calm us down. That is because this will really scare a common man. I mean, anytime, he could become the victim of the arson or the arsonist himself. ”
To another question on a video showing police personnel indulging in arson, the actor said, “I only hope they are actors and not policemen. Some actor like me wearing khaki at least that you can clearly indicate and vindicate him as a criminal and put him behind bars. What do you do if they are real police personnel? I only hope they are not real policemen. That is the only loophole they have now.”
Kamal Haasan said what the protestors were questioning was the double standard of allowing to kill bulls for beef eating but not allowing one to play with one’s bull, which will come back to play again the next year. He said, “The rest of the year, it is tended to as carefully as a pet animal in the house. I don’t know. I think we have to maintain an equipoise and this double standard is what we are questioning.”
